Aditi Rao Hydari was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, to classical singers Ehsaan Hydari and Vidya Rao, who are both well-known for their work in the thumri and Dadra styles of music. Aditi Rao Hydari’s mother is a practising Buddhist and a Chitrapur Saraswat from Mangalore who is half-Telugu. Aditi Rao Hydari’s father, a Bohri Muslim who passed away in 2013, was a Hindu by birth. Hydari is descended from Sir Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari and Raja J. Rameshwar Rao, a former Raja of the Wanaparthy family, respectively, from two royal lineages. She is the great-granddaughter of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, a former governor of Assam, and the granddaughter of Akbar Hydari, a former prime minister of Hyderabad state in colonial India.
Aditi is the granddaughter of Shanta Rameshwar Rao, a highly regarded educationalist in the city of Hyderabad, the founder of the Vidyaranya school, and Raja J. Hydari started her professional career as a Bharatanatyam dancer. She developed an interest in the dance form at the age of eleven after being associated with Leela Samson. She travelled across India and overseas to perform in stage shows while working as a teacher for Samson’s dance troupe, Spanda.[15][16]
Hydari finished her first acting job, Srinagar, at the beginning of 2004. In the role, she played a 19th-century temple dancer named Devadasi.[17] Renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Padmini Ravi produced the Tamil film, which was directed by Sharada Ramanathan. After witnessing Hydari’s dance performance at a conference, Ramanathan extended an offer to Hydari, citing her “vulnerable and fresh face” as further reasons. However, Prajapathi (2006), a Malayalam movie in which she co-starred with Mammootty, was her first theatrical release.
Actress Suhasini had recommended her to filmmaker Ranjith for the role, and she was chosen when the director made contact with her through Sringaram’s cinematographer, Madhu Ambat.[21]
Hydari played an orphan girl who developed feelings for the character played by Mammootty, however, the critic from Rediff said that Hydari “has nothing to do with the overall plot” and that her role was therefore small.[22] Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra cast her in his 2009 Hindi drama film Delhi-6, in which she had a supporting part as an unmarried lady in a society that disapproved of spinsterhood.
Professional growth (2009–2015)
2011 saw Hydari play a supporting part in Sudhir Mishra’s love drama Yeh Saali Zindagi, with Arunoday Singh.
