Jaggi Vasudev (Sadhguru): Early Life, Age and Background

Jaggi Vasudev, famously known as ‘Sadhguru,’ is an Indian yogi and mystic who is the founder of the ‘Isha Foundation. It is a non-profit organisation that offers yoga programs around the world. A multi-faceted personality, he is also an author, motivational speaker, philanthropist, and spiritual teacher.

He was born on 3 September 1957 (age 64) in Mysore. He became acquainted with Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji, a prominent yoga teacher, at the age of 12. Swamiji taught him a set of simple yoga asanas which he regularly practised.

Intermittent Fasting Heart Disease: Exploring the Connection

His family chose to have him become a doctor since his father worked as an ophthalmologist for Indian Railways.

Most people think either to become a doctor or an engineer.

But when Sadhguru turned 16, he decided to discontinue his further education after his high school; instead, he thought to educate himself.

This decision was not welcomed by his family because in India it is rare to discontinue studying.

However, due to family pressure, Sadhguru was admitted to Mysore University.

Sadhguru’s Befriending Books-

In the university, Sadhguru used to spend most of his time reading books at the library.

He used to read books on almost all topics like philosophy, mechanics, poetry, history, geography, etc.

This reading was important to engage him because during those times Sadhguru was physically active and very energetic and thus he drove that energy to gain knowledge by reading books.

Taking a different route-

Sadhguru did not attend regular classes because he realised that the teachers at his university were just dictating the notes all the time and the students were just jotting down the notes that were dictated.

He found this practice unnecessary and instead of writing notes he decided to photocopy the notes.

So, Sadhguru made a deal with all his teachers to not attend the classes and he collected the notes by photocopying.

Another reason for him to not attend the regular classes was that he had millions of questions regarding everything in the world, which the classes failed to answer.

Instead of providing answers, the classes only had ready-made notes about subjects.

Acquiring the role of advisor:

Sadhguru used to sit in the university garden in addition to the library.

Here, a large number of students would come to him and seek counsel from Sadhguru while sharing with him their issues with families, relationships, schoolwork, and other issues.

He recognised that most people have problems, but he was the only one who was problem-free after listening to thousands of pupils for three years.

Thus, Sadhguru occasionally offered those kids his own answers, the majority of which were absurd.

And he came to the realisation that troubles arise for people in every circumstance.

According to Sadhguru, the tendency to complain has become widespread in today’s world.
