About Vampire facial linked to HIV infection at US spa

Vampire facials utilise the client’s blood, which is drawn and re-inserted with micro-needling to rejuvenate the skin on the face. According to health officials, anyone who received such services at the VIP Spa should go to the South Valley Public Health office in Albuquerque for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C lab testing, even if they previously tested negative.”It’s essential that we communicate the word and inform people who received any kind of injection related to therapies provided at the VIP Spa to come in for free and confidential testing,” said Dr Laura Parajon, DOH deputy secretary, in a release.

Former clients of a now-closed New Mexico salon are being urged to be tested for HIV after new illnesses connected to the facility’s vampire facials were identified years after it closed. The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) notified on Wednesday that a newly diagnosed case of HIV had been reported to the DOH Infectious Disease Bureau. The patient’s only self-reported HIV exposure occurred in 2018 during a vampire facial at the VIP Spa in Albuquerque.

The DOH renewed its investigation into the event due to the new case and discovered “additional HIV infections with a direct or indirect connection to services provided at the VIP Spa.”

In September 2018, New Mexico health officials issued a warning to consumers who received a vampire facial at the Albuquerque spa to get tested for HIV and hepatitis.

After the client reported the infection, the DOH promptly shut down VIP Spa, and the initial inquiry discovered that their injectable treatments, including vampire facials and Botox, might spread blood-borne infections like HIV and hepatitis B and C. During the preliminary investigation in 2018 and 2019, more than 100 former clients were examined.

An overview of Vampire facial

The cosmetic industry has given the procedure the title of “vampire facial.” A vampire facial is a cosmetic technique that boosts collagen production by using your blood. Celebs and red carpet A-listers love this PRP micro-needling treatment. This is known as a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) face or treatment.  It is a cosmetic procedure that comprises microneedling followed by the administration of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to your skin.

Your blood is used to extract the PRP. Platelets in the blood have exceptionally high quantities of growth factors. When administered to the skin, these growth factors aid in increasing cell turnover. The growth factors stimulate collagen and elastin production as well as skin moisture. They also provide antioxidants to your skin. This technique also increases your skin’s absorption power, which means it can absorb other skin care products better.

To summarise, a vampire facial promotes healthy cell activity by using your blood. The blood face treatment may appear to be highly uncomfortable at first, but it is not.

The Vampire Facial Procedure

What occurs when you have a vampire facial or a PRP facial:

  • First, the skin care professional will draw blood from your body.
  • Platelets will then be extracted from your blood. They use a centrifuge to rapidly spin the blood to separate its layers. Platelet-rich plasma is collected from it.
  • Microneedling or microdermabrasion is then used to apply these platelets to your skin. When platelets are placed on your skin, they mislead it into believing it is damaged, causing it to manufacture more collagen.

What Are the Advantages of Getting a Vampire Facial?

As previously stated, platelet-rich plasma includes growth elements that promote collagen production and improve skin suppleness. This treatment aids in

  • Minimise the visibility of wrinkles and lines of collagen.
  • Improve the texture of your skin
  • Skin pores should be reduced in size.
  • Acne scars can be made to look better.
  • Helps with skin regeneration and plumping.
  • Provide you with a youthful glow and flawless skin
  • Enhance the efficacy of skincare products

This non-invasive facial surgery can be combined with other facial procedures. Although it has become a popular trend and is marketed as the secret to the Fountain of Youth, it has several negative side effects. This non-invasive facial surgery can be combined with other facial procedures.

Although it has become a popular trend and is marketed as the secret to the Fountain of Youth, it has several negative side effects.

It tends to cause infection:  According to news sources, a few persons have been exposed to blood-borne illnesses such as Hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV. This occurs when the procedure is not carried out correctly, without the necessary equipment, infection control practises, and the supervision of a medical practitioner. Untrained persons frequently perform procedures in spas without sufficient supervision. So, if you want to get a vampire facial, make sure the Medispa is competent in doing such operations.

It’s Excruciating: Yes. Kim Kardashian even expressed apology after having a vampire facial due to the pain and discomfort (she didn’t use any numbing gel because she was pregnant). If you have a low pain threshold measurement, you should avoid this.

It tends to cause inflammation: Inflammation and scars are frequent with this operation (remember singer Kerry Katona’s enlarged face after her vampire facial?). To ensure that the irritation is gone, you must follow a comprehensive aftercare programme.
